چکیده
Drought stress is a major environmental factor limiting plant growth. Selection of drought-tolerant plants critical importance in vegetation restoration and forestation programs. Alnus subcordata Acer velutinum are two valuable, dominant, endemic species the Hyrcanian forests. There fast-growing significant diffuse-porous hardwood afforestation reforestation. One-year old seedlings both were exposed to four water shortage treatments (100, 75, 50 25% field capacity (FC) chosen as control, mild, moderate, severe) for 12 weeks. Thereafter, their morphological characteristics such height basal area, total organs biomass (root, stem, leaf), leaf area (LA), specific (SLA), ratio (LAR), well physiological biochemical relative content (RWC), chlorophyll, free proline malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD) peroxidase (POD) activity measured. The results showed that when reduced availability, plants’ height, diameter, biomass, LA, LAR, RWC chlorophyll decreased, but concentration, MDA content, SOD, POD increased species. root shoot (R/S) mass (RMR) at FC A. subcordata, whereas no difference was found under drought treatments. SLA significantly 50% decreased compared control treatment. more RWC, POD, lower increase than moderate Therefore, appears possess better mechanism cope stress. tolerance may enhance its potential climatic adaptations drier conditions with ongoing change.

Morpho-physiological responses in Alnus subcordata and Acer velutinum seedlings to drought stress
In this study, the effect of drought stress on morphological and physiological characteristics of two forest species: Alnus subcordata and Acer velutinum, which are used in natural forest restoration and afforestation, was evaluated. A factorial experiment was conducted based on a completely randomized design with two factors (two species and four levels of drought stress: (25% (severe stress),...
متن کاملEffects of Logging Wounds on Caucasian Alder Trees (Alnus subcordata C.A. Mey.) in Iranian Caspian Forests
Caucasian alder is a large tree and one of the commercial species in the Caspian forests. We investigated the wound healing rate (WHR) and compared the diameter growth (DG) of 66 wounded and 66 unwounded alder trees 15 years after selected logging in these forests. The conditions of the wounds after 15 years were as follows: 56.1% had closed, 25.7% were open, and 18.2% had decayed. The mean WHR...

Background and Aim: Plants are a rich source of phenolic compounds as natural antioxidants are important. Antioxidant compounds that prevent the spread of diseases and the destruction of many of the foods they are extracted from the bark of Acer velutinum and Alnus subcordata trees. The purpose of this study the required the use of bark as the source of phenol is the pharmaceutical industry. Ma...
متن کاملreducing damage of late cold on persian maple (acer velutinum boiss.) seedlings by delaying germination and seedling protection
in the last decade, frequency of late cold incidence has increased in the upland forest nurseries. the aim of present study was to reduce the damage caused by spring frost and to increase the efficiency of persian maple seedlings production in mountain nurseries. this study was conducted as split plot design with two main treatments and three replications in two consecutive years (2009-2010) in...
متن کاملSavanna Tree Seedlings are Physiologically Tolerant to Nighttime Freeze Events
Freeze events can be important disturbances in savanna ecosystems, yet the interactive effect of freezing with other environmental drivers on plant functioning is unknown. Here, we investigated physiological responses of South African tree seedlings to interactions of water availability and freezing temperatures. We grew widely distributed South African tree species (Colophospermum mopane, Comb...
